How Long Does it Take to See Results When Increasing Testosterone Levels

Some of you might already know that I’m extremely slow at answering emails. My email inbox is literally like a black hole. Whenever I answer 50 emails, 60 new ones are waiting for me. This is a question that I get asked multiple times per day.

“Dear Ali, how long does it really take to increase testosterone levels naturally?”

“Hey Ali, I’m right now at 250 ng/dL testosterone, how long does it take to get to +800 ng/dL following your tips?”

And many other emails along similar lines.

The boiling question always is: How long does it take to increase natural testosterone levels?

And here’s my answer:

Nobody knows exactly how long it will take.

People are just so different and have such different backgrounds, habits, life situations, etc.

When we’re talking about the endocrine system, you have to understand that everything affects everything.

With that being said, I can give you some helpful examples:

a) I started at ~400 ng/dL about 5 years ago. Back then I knew absolutely nothing about testosterone, and I couldn’t even understand any scientific literature. It took me more than 3 years to reach +1000 ng/dL, but that was because I learned everything through trial and error. If a blog like this would of have existed back then, I think it would of have taken roughly 6-12 months instead of +3 years.

b) Christopher Walker, the author of Testshock program, went from 11 ng/dL to 1192 ng/dL in ~18 months. His journey was faster, even though his starting point was considerably lower than mine. Why? Because he knew what to do. Chris understood the endocrine system, he studied neuroscience in the Duke university, and had access to all the material you’d ever need when optimizing natural testosterone production.

c) There are hundreds of emails in my inbox, and dozens of comments around various posts in this blog, where people say how they have gone from 200-400 ng/dL to 600-800 ng/dL, usually in a time span of 3-6 months. These are most commonly readers who have been following the blog for a while, and have just implemented the teachings little by little. These things might be: changing the diet around, losing 10 lbs of fat mass, correcting vitamin and mineral defiencies, and/or starting a resistance training routine, etc.

d) There’s also the group I call “magic-pill chasers”. These are the people who ask about supplements (and supplements only), but never do anything to their shitty diets, obesity, environmental estrogen exposure, or non-existing exercise routines. When the “super tribulus 3000 hardcore” supplement doesn’t skyrocket their testosterone levels in a week, they give up, without realizing that they never really took ACTION. For these people, it takes a lifetime, and they won’t get any results.

e) There are some studies with larger groups of men as subjects, which can give us some insights about different scenarios. For example: here’s a study with 891 men as subjects. When their body fat percentage dropped by -9% on average, their testosterone levels went up by ~50%. Got 9% extra fat to drop? As soon as you’re done with that, you can expect your T levels to be 50% higher.

As boring as it sounds, nobody knows how long it will take for you to increase your T levels. There are far too many factors in play. You might be a magic-pill chaser, you might be 200 lbs overweight, or you might just be an average Joe with grit and confidence to take action and eventually get results.

Just remember that whatever the situation, 99% of all men can increase their natural testosterone production. Significantly. It’s just never an overnight process.

The same rule as in losing weight, also applies to natural testosterone optimization…

…You didn’t get to low T in a day, and you surely can’t fix that in a day either.

Conclusion

“How long does it take to increase my testosterone levels?”

Nobody knows, and nobody cares. There are too many factors in play, and you’re the only one responsible to yourself.

You will know the answer once you have done it. Then you can look back and understand that it was all worth it. Quit chasing the magic-pill, and quit asking how long it will take. Instead, take action. Read, implement, and get results. What have you got to lose?

    This is a valid point with most things in life. We live in the day of the “magic pill” overnight success. But most things take time, and action consistently over time to build. Whether losing weight, raising T-levels, building a business, improving your golf swing. “Rome wasn’t built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour.”

    That’s good information. I thought a person could raise their levels faster than that. What do you think is a safe range of percent of body fat that won’t drop T levels? Asked differently, what is too fat?

      I’m not the expert but I’d say 9-12% is probably optimum. Sub 9 and you start to get really lean and things can head south. Obviously the more dialed your diet, training, lifestyle habits, you can get away with a bit more I’d imagine.

        9-12% may be true, but people with those numbers in the real world are few and far between. I am a drug free powerlifter. Let me say with assurance that the key difference between me and a lot of people that make that statement is that I really don’t use any ped’s at all. I’m clean. My point is that I’ll bet you my fat is above 15%. I can clearly see abs, but I don’t think that is a good guessing point. It’s hard to get enough fuel and get leaner, while always maintaining peak strengh.

          That is a valid point. I’m sure the experts will chime in!

          • 9-12% Is in fact pretty optimal number to be in.

            Lower than that and you need to be on a too strict diet, which will negatively impact T.

            Chris has a point there too. Being <15% means that you will have to give up some strength gains (if you're natural).

            It’s a personal choice I face every day. I love to compete and I’m always looking for more weight on the bar while trying to get leaner. Competing in a drug tested federation against a bunch of cheaters is tough so I eat as much as I need to recover and stay healthy. Your content is a breath of fresh air in a world revolving around drugs. It’s pure awesome! Thank you.

    Awesome, I sent this question a week or two ago, thanks a lot for answering! I am a really unhealthy guy who’s trying to turn things around so basic info like ‘how long does it take’ is important to me. I’ve cut my drinking to very little, changed my diet, and started with weights, and generally changed my life a lot, but mostly in the last month or so. The lack of immediately noticeable improvements concerned me so thanks for clueing me in that these things take time. It’s no surprise of course but good to have the info…

    • Yeah, it used to bother me in the beginning when I didn’t see instant results. Even the guys who start TRT usually have to wait for sometime to see any effects.

  • Probably a high quality multi-vitamin containing: A, B, C, D, K2, zinc, selenium, magnesium, iodine, copper, boron. So that you can correct any underlying deficiencies.

    From herbs, mucuna pruriens, is my favorite (and this sucks because from the beginning of 2015, it has been banned in Finland due to the fact that L-Dopa was added to the doping list, and mucuna contains naturally occurring L-Dopa).

    If you lift, creatine is great for testosterone and strength gains, while L-carnitine will increase androgen receptor sensitivity and density in muscle tissue, which helps your body to utilize more T.

    For dietary changes. Eat more saturated and monunsaturated fats and less polyunsaturated ones. Also consume a lot of starchy carbs, such as potatoes. Get your protein from animal sources. Grass-fed beef would be the best kind.

    Some useful information. Unfortunately, the title of the overview of the study used in example E is misleading. If you read the article more closely the 50% improvement was seen in cases of hypogonadism. Of the people in the study, a little less than 50% of the people who had T levels below 300 ng/dL improved their levels to above 300 ng/dL. In theory, if someone in the study had T levels of 299 and raised it to 301 ng/dl then they would be included in that 50%. The people that lifted weights and exercised did increase there total T by about 15% (according to the article), but not 50%.

      As someone who has studied statistics, I would recommended closely looking at the numbers. Some of the other numbers and percents listed on the site seem questionable.

    Problem with losing fat is losing size. And losing size makes me angry. So angry that i could hurl a fucking 50 kg dumbbell at anything that annoys me.

    Hey Ali! Your website is awesome! In 3 months I’ve changed my life using your recommendations. I changed my diet, now I combine swimming with bodyweight exercises, I eat organic food, I take green smoothies, supplements,cold showers… and now I feel more confident speaking in public or with girls, so thank you for all. Now I’m 18 and my question is how affect to the body increasing T after the puberty? I mean, you say in an article that Adam’s apple can grow after puberty, but what about the composition of the face for example? Is it too late to have a manly face? Thank you man ;))

    Great Article. I really appreciate all the information on this site. But, try not to be so overly defensive about us wanting to the timeframe of improvement. We have good reasons for wanting to know how long it will take. As somone who’s been eating healthy and getting the right proteins and lifting weights for a long time, I want to know if the changes I’m making are actually working. It’s a big difference: waiting 1 week or waiting 10 months. We both know, those polyunsaturated fat ratios need to be low enough and when a single hand-full of walnuts can damage your poly ratios from 0.4 to 0.85 for the whole day, it means you have to take great care to count all your fats and macros – all that is a lot of work. So, if we can see the difference in a matter of weeks and realize that we’re still not making any gains, then we can adjust our strategy accordingly, instead of waiting 10 months for changes that may or may not come.
